Wedding & Portrait Photographer Amanda Howse bio picture
  • About Amanda

While studying to become an actor at Emerson College, Amanda received a gift that would change her life forever: her grandfather’s old manual Olympus 35mm camera. Falling in love with the black and white image, Amanda became inspired to study photography and traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for her first photography workshop. Soon she was pursuing her second BA from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. While studying Portraiture, she was awarded a two-month internship with a well-known portrait and wedding photographer in WA state. She was instantly hooked, and moved to the Seattle area three years later to pursue a career as a wedding photographer. Today, Amanda has finished her eighth wedding season as a photographer and shows no sign of stopping. Amanda loves every aspect of covering weddings, from the excitement and anticipation of capturing the newly-engaged couple, to the behind-the-scenes action before the ceremony, to those unforgettable moments when two people at last say “I do.” Amanda considers it an honor to be invited to spend the entire day doing what makes her happy: capturing images of a couple on the happiest day of their lives. Amanda loves getting to know the wedding party, and she has a knack for creating an atmosphere so relaxed and comfortable that most people forget they are even having their photos taken. The art of photography is constantly evolving, and Amanda is devoted to learning all the latest tricks of the photographer’s trade, attending workshops and classes yearly, maintaining membership in numerous photography guilds, and gathering inspiration from blogs, magazines, and galleries. She brings all of this knowledge and inspiration to every sitting, every wedding, and every opportunity she finds to capture the beauty of life on film. There’s truly nothing else she’d rather do.

FashionFirst | 8th Annual Fashion Show | Showbox SoDo

Tonight I attended Fashion First, an auction and fashion show brought to Seattle by Joan and Jared Events. Showbox SoDo always puts on a great show, and tonight wasn’t any different. Lights, cameras, and lots of fun action. The auctioneer livened up the night, and guests were encouraged to strut their stuff on the runway/catwalk, how fun! Team Photogenic kept the entrance packed at all times with everyone wanting their photos taken. There were cadillacs from Brotherton Renton, drinks by Maker’s Mark and Pearl Vodka, and a VIP room. All the volunteers sported red ribbons for AIDS awareness. The auction was a success as many awesome things were bid on: from drinks, bottles of wine, concert tickets, dinners, to a vacation in Hawaii and a box at a Sounders game. Well done Seattle.

Family Portraits | What to Wear | Fall Part I

Ever wonder what to wear when you get your family portraits done professionally?

A couple general rules of thumb are:
-colors in the same pallet (such as browns, greens, blues together, or pinks, red, yellows together)
-nothing with words, logos, or inappropriate things on them
-bring multiple outfits in case some things don’t work, get dirty, and so on
-pick complimentary clothing colors, you don’t need to match or wear the exact same thing
-accessories can be a fun thing to integrate into your outfit
-shoes do matter, so watch what you put on your feet
-watch patterns and “loud” outfits as they will distract from the main element of the photo: you!
-most importantly though, be and dress like yourself. (you don’t want your photos to have you looking/feeling uncomfortable in them)

And since this is a photography blog, here are some photo samples of outfits:

Bonney Lake Newborn Photographer | Baby P

I had the best 2 days of meeting and shooting Baby P and her family. She was welcomed into the world 5 days ago by her mom, dad, big brother and big sister. Everyone simply adores her, as you can see by all the cuddling and loving she gets. Her little nose is just perfect, she has long thin fingers, and loves to be wrapped up tight. Pink is in abundance at her house, so we dolled her up with some cute flowery hair wraps. Big brother can’t get enough of holding her, and his face lights up when he gets too. Big sister loves showing off her little sister, and does a great job loving her and helping mom out.

Morrill Family | A’s 1st Birthday Celebration

I had the pleasure of photographing beautiful little Miss A again for her first birthday celebration with her family over the weekend. What a cutie she is turning out to be. She was all smiles, laughs & claps. She enjoyed opening her presents while snacking on a huge cupcake, a pickle, and even some lemons! Little A has twin cousins, who at age 3 were bundles of energy. It was hard to get both of them to make eye contact at once! Their big brother definitely helped out though. There were also four little chihuahuas there to join in the fun! With four generations at the cabin, the photo opportunities were abundant, and I had a blast capturing portraits of all. I always love going to my clients houses and seeing my images displayed. There was a fun canvas print of baby A atop the cupcake display, so cute!

Girly Girl Wine | Girl’s Night Out – A Few of Our Favorite Things

Last week I had the pleasure of capturing this event at the Girly Girl Tasting Room. What a fun evening. The temperature was up, the wine was being poured, and everyone was there to support a cure for breast cancer for both men and women. There were hunks in pink ties serving wine and vinoritas (yummy blended cold wine drink), cake balls made with wine from the amazing Dianne’s Delights, delish food, great company, raffle prizes, painting, shopping for clothes, purses and Scentsy. Live music by Chris Hyde.
