Wedding & Portrait Photographer Amanda Howse bio picture
  • About Amanda

While studying to become an actor at Emerson College, Amanda received a gift that would change her life forever: her grandfather’s old manual Olympus 35mm camera. Falling in love with the black and white image, Amanda became inspired to study photography and traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for her first photography workshop. Soon she was pursuing her second BA from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. While studying Portraiture, she was awarded a two-month internship with a well-known portrait and wedding photographer in WA state. She was instantly hooked, and moved to the Seattle area three years later to pursue a career as a wedding photographer. Today, Amanda has finished her eighth wedding season as a photographer and shows no sign of stopping. Amanda loves every aspect of covering weddings, from the excitement and anticipation of capturing the newly-engaged couple, to the behind-the-scenes action before the ceremony, to those unforgettable moments when two people at last say “I do.” Amanda considers it an honor to be invited to spend the entire day doing what makes her happy: capturing images of a couple on the happiest day of their lives. Amanda loves getting to know the wedding party, and she has a knack for creating an atmosphere so relaxed and comfortable that most people forget they are even having their photos taken. The art of photography is constantly evolving, and Amanda is devoted to learning all the latest tricks of the photographer’s trade, attending workshops and classes yearly, maintaining membership in numerous photography guilds, and gathering inspiration from blogs, magazines, and galleries. She brings all of this knowledge and inspiration to every sitting, every wedding, and every opportunity she finds to capture the beauty of life on film. There’s truly nothing else she’d rather do.

Roche Harbor | Wedding Destination | San Juan Island

I had the immense pleasure of visiting Roche Harbor Resort over this past weekend. We stayed in the nicest room they have in the McMillan house over-looking to harbor and water and town. Our trip began by driving to Anacortes to catch the ferry to San Juan Island. We got off the ferry in Friday Harbor, a quaint little town on the south side of the island. We drove the long way around the island to get to Roche Harbor on the north shore. We saw many cows, sheep, alpacas, and more. We detoured to some parks, camp sites, historical buildings and a sculpture park.

The Hotel De Haro is a grand old hotel, which welcomed us in with a fire roaring and completely done up for the holidays. We stayed in the McMillan house, their most luxurious suite, over-looking the the McMillan restaurant. The room itself was amazing. The bathroom had heated floors, a claw-footed tub bug enough for two, and a cut stool perfect for “getting ready.” The entry was complete with a place to hang your keys, a front porch to relax on, hard-wood floors, and sloped ceilings. The bed, in one word: majestic. I had to climb into it it was so big and fluffy. It was a king size piece of heaven. We slept like cats. The sitting area had a comfy couch which we spent hours on relaxing, reading and playing checkers (that came with the room). Oh, did I mention we did this by the fire and with wine?

Our deck was perfect for watching the Xmas boat lights parade that night. I could just picture a bride and her bridesmaids getting ready in this room during the warm summer months. We had dinner at the McMillan restaurant, just a short flight of stairs and a cute path down from our room. What an amazing dinner that was. From the local martini’s to the local lamb and steak we enjoyed, the decor was soft, romantic, and the self-playing piano gave it the perfect atmosphere.

I highly recommend this resort for a destination wedding. Thanks for having us! Click here for the rest of the photos.

Studio Xmas with “A”

My new home-based studio debuted this month. Little “A” was kind enough to come and model for me, and brave the cold. What fun we had! We had a present for him to open early, holiday jammies, hats, holiday lights, and even a candy cane! But the best were his new “Santa” diapers, which he rocked modeling for us.

Happy Holidays!

Eastside Holiday Tweetup

I had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca tonight of Eastside Fashion Blog. She co-hosted a Tweetup in Bellevue at The Lodge with Lindsey of I Really Like Weddings. There was tweeting, Starbucks drinks, treats, jewelry by Jewel Kade (thanks to Jennifer & Kimmberly), a style presentation from a Gene Juarez styist, and Jewel Mint giveaways from Maile, Kassie and Jammie. There were some brave women (and men) in attendance (brave due to the traffic and parking nightmare created by the Bellevue Holiday Lane nightly parade), and fun was had by all!
