Wedding & Portrait Photographer Amanda Howse bio picture
  • About Amanda

While studying to become an actor at Emerson College, Amanda received a gift that would change her life forever: her grandfather’s old manual Olympus 35mm camera. Falling in love with the black and white image, Amanda became inspired to study photography and traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for her first photography workshop. Soon she was pursuing her second BA from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. While studying Portraiture, she was awarded a two-month internship with a well-known portrait and wedding photographer in WA state. She was instantly hooked, and moved to the Seattle area three years later to pursue a career as a wedding photographer. Today, Amanda has finished her eighth wedding season as a photographer and shows no sign of stopping. Amanda loves every aspect of covering weddings, from the excitement and anticipation of capturing the newly-engaged couple, to the behind-the-scenes action before the ceremony, to those unforgettable moments when two people at last say “I do.” Amanda considers it an honor to be invited to spend the entire day doing what makes her happy: capturing images of a couple on the happiest day of their lives. Amanda loves getting to know the wedding party, and she has a knack for creating an atmosphere so relaxed and comfortable that most people forget they are even having their photos taken. The art of photography is constantly evolving, and Amanda is devoted to learning all the latest tricks of the photographer’s trade, attending workshops and classes yearly, maintaining membership in numerous photography guilds, and gathering inspiration from blogs, magazines, and galleries. She brings all of this knowledge and inspiration to every sitting, every wedding, and every opportunity she finds to capture the beauty of life on film. There’s truly nothing else she’d rather do.

Sanders Mansion | Kent, WA | Nachelle & Brandon

Sanders Mansion is one of my favorite hidden wedding locations. I say hidden because I drove by it for years not knowing what was behind the gates. It is an old renovated house, sitting on an amazing property. You get a lake with a boat, swans, lots of greenery, flowers, trees, fountains, a great outside tent, on-site parking, a fun ceremony site, and more! The bride’s getting ready room has great window light and colors, and the owners are wonderful too! I met Nachelle in May when she was a bridesmaid in a wedding I had the pleasure of shooting. So this day was like a mini-reunion for me, getting to see everyone again! Her details were amazing, from Report shoes engraved with her wedding date, to a hanger spelling out “Mrs. G” love it! Nachelle looked so amazing in her mermaid dress, I could have taken photos of her all day. I loved when she braved the lake with her hubby for a few minutes alone after they said “I Do.” The “love” umbrella provided made for great images too. She had a “just married” banner that many friends had also used, “thank you” signs, and a smile all day. It was a pleasure spending this hot summer day with you guys, I’m glad I was able to capture your sparkler exit too!

Thornewood Castle | Tacoma, WA | Holly & Charles

One stunning old fashioned beauty. Her prince charming, a la gansta era. Two engagement rings, one meat eater, one vegan. A castle. These are just a few things to describe Holly & Charlie on their wedding day. The mid-week wedding afternoon was perfect. The sun lazily heating up the sunken gardens as they said their “I Do’s.” The sunlight decided to help me out when the groomsmen, groom and the “men” (along with a few bridesmaids) whipped out the cigars to celebrate. The appetizers and vegan cake very AH-MAZING (not to mention the plush pillow softness that the cake appeared to be). The fun non-alcoholic drinks were very summer-y: Mock Mojito and Berry Lemonade, complete with the popular striped straw I keep seeing this year… So glad I finally got to see this location.

Emerald Downs | Auburn, WA | Katie & Chris

Katie & Chris were married at Emerald Downs race track and casino, in the beautiful outside garden. The ceremony took place just before sunset, so the light was buttery and glowing. The sky was filled with hues of pink and orange, and we had a blast playing after the ceremony with many fun wedding party photos! But I get ahead of myself. The day began at Katie’s sister’s house in Kent. Make-up, dresses and women were everywhere when I walked in. So was a cutie-patootie baby girl and their shaved Pomeranian (my fav kind of dog) to complete the scene. Meanwhile, the guys were getting all spiffy and having their photos taken down at the Des Moines Marina. The day was perfect, as was the weather, and they were still dancing when I left them around midnight…

Engagement Party Photobooth

What else spells out fun better than some drinks, a box of props, and a bunch of fun people? A photobooth!!! The perfect addition to any party, it helps bring out your shy guests, and allows everyone to have some good ol clean fun! I attended an awesome engagement party over the weekend, and here is a sneak peek from the photobooth:

Maternity Photos | Eddy Family

I had the pleasure of shooting the maternity photos for their last little guy about 3.5 years ago, and now I get to capture the entire family with baby Phoebe inside her mommy. I had everyone wear white so that they all matched and looked good in the photos. I think that color choice worked well, especially showing off a pregnant tummy!! There is never a dull moment when family photos and kids are involved, that’s for sure. I’m counting down the days until I get to meet little Phoebe in September…
