Wedding & Portrait Photographer Amanda Howse bio picture
  • About Amanda

While studying to become an actor at Emerson College, Amanda received a gift that would change her life forever: her grandfather’s old manual Olympus 35mm camera. Falling in love with the black and white image, Amanda became inspired to study photography and traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for her first photography workshop. Soon she was pursuing her second BA from the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. While studying Portraiture, she was awarded a two-month internship with a well-known portrait and wedding photographer in WA state. She was instantly hooked, and moved to the Seattle area three years later to pursue a career as a wedding photographer. Today, Amanda has finished her eighth wedding season as a photographer and shows no sign of stopping. Amanda loves every aspect of covering weddings, from the excitement and anticipation of capturing the newly-engaged couple, to the behind-the-scenes action before the ceremony, to those unforgettable moments when two people at last say “I do.” Amanda considers it an honor to be invited to spend the entire day doing what makes her happy: capturing images of a couple on the happiest day of their lives. Amanda loves getting to know the wedding party, and she has a knack for creating an atmosphere so relaxed and comfortable that most people forget they are even having their photos taken. The art of photography is constantly evolving, and Amanda is devoted to learning all the latest tricks of the photographer’s trade, attending workshops and classes yearly, maintaining membership in numerous photography guilds, and gathering inspiration from blogs, magazines, and galleries. She brings all of this knowledge and inspiration to every sitting, every wedding, and every opportunity she finds to capture the beauty of life on film. There’s truly nothing else she’d rather do.

San Nicolas Family Portraits | Lake Tapps, WA

What can be more fun than taking a family portrait for 22 people when it’s pouring rain? Thank goodness Cat and her family had a very nice, large livingroom and couch available.  The entire family dressed perfectly matched, and we had a blast posing everyone for a few hours last Sunday!  These are a few of my favorite images: some sisterly love, siblings, and Grandma with her grand and great-grandkids.

What I’m Reading | March 2013

So I haven’t updated this for awhile… I know, I know, life gets in the way.  It took me FOREVER to finish my last BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood) novel.  BUT, the new one comes out later this month, so yay:

Lover at Last

After owning this book for quite some time (clear throat, years….) I am finally reading it!!!

Getting Things Done

I still have the new JK Rowling book on my to-read list, along with a few more biz books…

What I’m listening to:

Stephen King’s Misery

I just finished listening to this book, which was funnily enough about adoption… weird coincidence.

I have also been going through all of Madeleine L’Engle’s books on audio.  (I drive a LOT).

G-ma Butler’s 90th Birthday | Family Photography

Grandma Butler, my husband’s wonderful paternal grandmother, turned 90 yesterday.  We had a little luncheon celebration at her church for her family and friends.  The food was great, the cake was bigger than her, there were speeches, talking, a slideshow of images from her life, and a wonderful collage of some amazing photos from her 90 years on this planet.  What a wonderful day it was.  I hope I am so lucky to one day celebrate my 90th birthday!  She was surrounded by her two boys and their wives, their five kids together (and three wives, one of which was me).  No great-grandkids yet though…. She had two friends there who were also over 90!

Miss Ella | Baby Portraits | Lifestyle Photography

I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Ella (my cousin’s little one) in WI last month.  She was a little ham for the camera.  Going from happy to sad to shy in seconds.  Working inside all day due to the weather (freezing WI winter and snow) I’d say we captured many of her looks.

Tattoo Photographer | Renton, WA

Diamond Tattoo & Body Piercing

Monday night found me in a tattoo parlor in Renton with a good friend.  She had the support of four ladies, a bottle of champagne, some pretty flowers, and my camera.  The before photo.

It was a rainy night, so cute boots and jackets were out in abundance.  We met our artist and he jumped right into designing.

And here we go.

She braved her first tattoo without one single tear.

And the strength of a friend.

Enough.
